My Love for You Could Fill All Times and Relative Dimensions in Space

*This poem was written for my brother who unexpectedly died two months ago on March 15. It is full of direct quotes and references to our favorite songs, books and television shows. Many of the references might make sense to some of you. The poem is not particularly artful, but it is full of things we both loved and cherished.

It’s been two months since the Ides took you away.
Two months since you told me that you loved me
and didn’t want to leave.
Two month since you made me promise to always
be there for your little loves.
Two months since I fell to the floor screaming.
Cliche, I know.
inside, I am still screaming.

Allons-y
So long and thanks for all the –
texts and talks
books and music
politics and love

Allons-y
So long and thanks for all the –
Don’t worry, I won’t panic
My dark knight
I know if I need you
You’ll be hanging out with the Dream King

Allons-y
So long and thanks for all the –
It’s just another rainy night
without you
because you’ve taken that old Impala
far over the misty mountains cold
to your City of Heroes.

It’s been two months since the Ides took you away
But your heart, it sings
I feel you with me.
In this house of leaves
For where there is life
there is hope

Allons-y
So long and thanks for all the –
“Did you try turning it on and off”
“You can fix it. I’ll walk you through it.”
“My sister’s a writer. That’s pretty cool.”

Allons-y
So long and thanks for all the –
things we shared
too many to reference here
I’m leaving out too much
but my love for you could fill all Times and Relative Dimensions in Space.

So Allons-y
So long and thanks for all the fish.

  1. I’m crying. Which is, I expect, the outcome of great writing I wish never had to be written. My heart breaks for you.
