2.9.14 – Auras, not the spiritual kind.

I’ve been suffering from extreme visual aura lately. For those of you who don’t know, visual auras are associated with migraines and seizures. There are various types, mine tend to make things look as though they are filtered through a kaleidoscope or sometimes they are flashing lights, or transparent flickering black spots.

Because of all of my vision issues, my eyes don’t take in information the way most people’s eyes do. So that causes a lot of my aura issues. For a few years I’ve been wearing tinted glasses indoors, which helps provide some relief from light – unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be doing much lately.

Sometimes the aura is so bad that I can’t see what’s in front of me. I can’t decipher the words on the computer screen. It’s almost like having a staticy television set…. except the television set is my brain.

It’s drastically affecting my workflow and causing projects to take twice the amount of time they should take.

I have several deadlines between now and Tuesday and I’m panicking a bit on how I’m going to meet them. Today, I’ve tried spending only 20 minutes a time at the computer. That seemed to help at first, but now the aura is in full swing and honestly, I can’t really tell if there are any typos in this post. I’m just guessing that they’re aren’t.

I haven’t been to a specialist in quite some time, but I’ve been dealing with this extreme aura/migraine issue for about 2 weeks now. As much as I dislike going to the doctor, I suppose it’s time to get things checked out.

  1. I’m happy never to have had them!..
Especially difficult if you have commitments to clients. Do you have a backup plan, work wise? If it’s writing work, I could imagine you could perhaps dictate it, and have someone else type it out (and if it’s someone with skill, do an edit too)… Let us know if there’s anything we can do.
